Peace Be Still

Finding inner peace with God in a world full of turmoil

Searching for inner peace in a world full of turmoil? The words of Jesus, “peace be still,” still carry the same authority they did when He first spoke them. Listen to His voice in your own heart, and He will calm your fears.

I don’t know if you follow the world news much, but if you do, you will be aware of great changes taking place all over the globe. Wars are a constant reality for planet earth. War ceases in one country, only to start up again in some other country. Governments are continually rising and falling. Food shortages, climate change, upheaval and disaster – all seem to fill our news media every day. But the scriptures foretell all these things that are coming on the earth, and nothing should take us by surprise or cause our hearts to fear. God assures us that even as the earth goes through these “groanings” waiting for the full manifestation of the sons of God, we are to carry on our daily lives, knowing that God has a plan for it all, and that we are an integral part of His plan for the earth in these last days.

The Bible says that in the last days “men’s hearts shall fail them for fear.
Fear not”, the Bible assures us. We as God’s people should have our hearts full of peace knowing that we are hid with Christ in God. We have a secret place, a place of abiding in His Presence. Only by abiding in His presence can we shut out the noise of the turmoil all around us, and rest in our hearts knowing that those words, “Peace, be still,” still carry the same authority they did when Jesus first spoke them.

But there will never be “peace on earth, good will to all men,” until there is peace in the heart of every man, woman and child living on the earth, because it is the unrest emanating from every heart that causes most of the world’s turmoil. Not until there is peace in every heart, will there ever be peace on earth.

I thank God every day that I live in New Zealand. What a place! It seems like a paradise so far away from the madding crowd and the rest of the world’s problems. And I think it no accident that the boundaries of my habitation have been set by God. I think it no accident that peaceful New Zealand whose national anthem is “God defend” is the host country from which the music of The Secret Place can be sent to the far corners of a troubled world. No matter where you live, I pray the music of The Secret Place can be a solace to your heart in these troubled times. I pray it will be for you a place of refuge, an ark, a shelter from the storms of life.

"“Peace, be still.” Listen to His voice in your own heart, and He will calm your fears."

Peace, be still.” He is in our hearts and He speaks peace to us from within our own hearts. Spend some time in the secret place of your own heart where He abides, and listen for His voice to calm your fears. He will reassure you that you are precious to Him, and that He cares for you. Let His voice drown out all the other voices clamouring to be heard, and you will find your own place of security and peace in this troubled world.

No matter where you live, no matter what is going on around you, you can live in your very own place of peace. It’s a secret place. It’s your very own private space with God, and no one can take that from you.

Scriptures on peace

Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."

John 16:33 "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
