Find Strength & Hope in His PresenceFind strength and hope in God's Presence with music from The Secret Place.
Waiting Upon the LordThe scriptures declare “they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength”. (Is. 40:31). When you wait upon the Lord, are you strengthened in Him or is your mind filled with questioning and doubts? When we stop and wait upon the Lord, our hearts should be filled with hope. If we find our waiting leads to discouragement and hopelessness, then we are waiting on a circumstance or person rather than the Lord. Waiting on the circumstance or person leads to frustration and doubt, but when we wait upon the Lord our heart is filled with hope. In the natural it would seem, the more we wait the more frustrated and disillusioned we would become. Not so in the Kingdom of God. We can wait upon the Lord in confidence knowing that our hope will not be cut off (Proverbs 23:18). The more we wait on the Lord, the stronger our hope and the deeper our strength. When we wait upon the Lord in His Presence, our heavy burdens and cares are laid at His feet. We find answers to circumstances that once seemed impossible. We trade our weakness for God’s strength and our uncertainty for God’s assurance. Waiting upon the Lord can be likened to seeing our reflection on a still lake. It is hard to see clearly when water has been troubled and disrupted by ripples. But as you wait, the water becomes still again and you are able to see your reflection. The same principle can be applied in different circumstances we face. Different situations and circumstances can trouble us causing uncertainty and doubt to unsettle our hearts. However, as we stop the busyness and wait upon the Lord, our hearts become stilled again. As we still our hearts before Him, what once was unsettled becomes clear and established in His Presence. “Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14 NKJV) In the waiting, the voice of our mind becomes stilled as it settles in the reality and awareness of the greatness of His Presence. His voice becomes the voice we hear rather than the turmoil of our busy minds. Let your mind be still and wait upon the Lord for His direction and answers. The more we learn how to quieten ourselves and listen, the easier it becomes to hear God speak to our hearts. As we wait upon the Lord in His Presence, our hearts are realigned to the greater truth of Who He is. When we wait patiently for the Lord, we see His provision and salvation in our situations. In 2 Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat faced the threat of armies against him. He waited in God’s Presence for His wisdom and guidance. During this time of encounter and seeking God’s face, he found the solution and answers to his problem. God’s response to Him as he waited was, “You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord” (2 Chron. 20:17 NKJV). As Jehoshaphat waited, the Lord came through on His behalf. Waiting on God is not for His benefit but for ours. It’s in the waiting that our strength is renewed. It’s in the waiting that our hearts are realigned and refreshed. It’s in the waiting that we find the answers and discover God’s wisdom for the situation rather than merely our own. Today as you wait upon the Lord, allow His strength and hope to fill your heart knowing that in His Presence is everything you need. Thank you for being a friend of The Secret Place. - Ray Watson
