Intercessory Prayer

There is a cry of intercession that comes from our secret place with Him. It is a cry for justice, a cry for redemption, a cry for peace, a cry for divine intervention. What moves us, moves Him. Jesus is our intercessor and He intercedes on our behalf.

“Who is He who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us”. Romans 8:34 NKJV

Jesus is our intercessor. When we pray, we partner with God to see His Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Intercessory prayer is not a posture of begging. It is a posture of believing and standing in faith. It is simply agreeing with God and His good plans for situations.

“If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:11-13 NKJV

Our belief in a good God changes our prayers and intercessions. God delights in answering our prayers. We have a heavenly Father who loves to give good gifts to His children. Believe in the goodness of God for your situation and that His plans are exceedingly, abundantly beyond anything we could imagine (Eph. 3:20).

Jesus teaching to the disciples on prayer was to pray “on earth as it is in heaven”. This simple key shows us the posture of prayer. We are to pray and intercede from heaven’s perspective. It is not a pleading cry banging on the doors of heaven hoping for an answer. It is a confident assurance that when we pray and intercede, the situations around us must change to the reality of heaven.

“Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” John 16:24 NKJV

Prayer and intercession is a state of joy. Intercessors should be happy people because they know in Whom they have believed. Our joy is full as we ask in His name and declare His good plans into the earth. We know the end of the story. This realization brings us fullness of joy and hope.

Today as intercessors, pray and intercede for situations from this place of joy and hope. When we do, we rest in the peace of God that passes our own understanding.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:6-7 NKJV
