What does your heart overflow with? We have so much to thank God for that we often take for granted. Our hearts, regardless of circumstances should be filled with the good theme of thanks. “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name.” Psalms 100:4 NKJV When we come before God in worship, our first response should be one of thankfulness and praise. We are often so eager to tell God what we need, who to fix and what to change in our lives that “thank you God” becomes the last words on our lips or even an afterthought. Choose thankfulness first and watch how the theme of thanks overflows into every area of your life. Giving thanks to God becomes not just a tag line at the beginning and end of prayers but a posture of our hearts. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” Philippians 4:6 NKJV. Are your prayers coupled with thanks to God? When we pray, thankfulness should overflow from our hearts. However, sometimes our tendency is to come with complaints and worries (sometimes masked in the form of prayers). Our hearts are full of cares instead of thankfulness. Giving thanks lifts our perspective and allows our hearts to focus on Jesus and all He has done for us. Our worries and concerns then begin to melt away as we thank God. Start cultivating a life of thanks. Let thanks become a habit and the theme you live your life by. Prayers that come from a heart full of thanks are infused with hope and joy. Start giving thanks and notice how it lifts your perspective and focuses the heart and mind on Jesus who is the lifter of our heads. “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your loving kindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night” (Psalm 92:1-2 NKJV).
