Note of Encouragement: When Heaven Comes Down
Yet He has not left Himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their season; He provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy. Acts 14:17.
There are constant reminders around us that we serve a good, kind God. Nature is a witness to the greatness of our God and to His goodness. Paul and Barnabas in Acts had the opportunity to illustrate the kindness and goodness of God to a crowd in Lystra. They used the example of rain to help illustrate His nature (Acts 14:17).
Rain throughout the Bible is used as a symbol for many things. Rain often speaks of abundance and the provision of Heaven in our lives. The abundance of Heaven is always towards you. God loves to rain His provision and abundance into every area of our lives - our relationships, our careers, our finances, our children. Our Heavenly Father has already given us the ultimate gift, how is He not also going to "give us all things"? (Romans 8:32).
Remember His provision. It is easy to get caught up in the purchasing hype of the season and forget that the ultimate provision has already been made. He has not left us without testimony, without a record of His unfailing love and goodness. Let His rain be a reminder of His kindness and goodness towards you. He promises to fill our hearts with joy and satisfy our desires.
Rain can also be a symbol of refreshing. Let the Heavenly Father wash away doubt, disappointment, heart ache, confusion, depression, worry, guilt; anything that comes against the grace and truth of who He is. Jesus brings grace, not law. Jesus came to the earth "full of grace and truth" (John 1:14). He did not come full of rules and judgement (He sends the rain on the just AND the unjust - Matt. 5:45), He came full of grace and truth.
Our souls need to be refreshed with the awareness that God is not raining down judgement, laws and 'to-dos' on His children. He is raining down His peace, grace and truth into every area of our lives. This 'rain' brings life. This 'rain' restores and refreshes and brings peace and joy to our souls.
This Christmas, be reminded of our Heavenly Father's constant abundance and provision towards us. Let His refreshing bring joy and hope to your soul as you celebrate Jesus this season.
The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14.
